Hungry Bunny a Leipziger Reading Compass

The Leipzig Reading Compass award for Hase hat hunger. A selection of titles that combine reading fun with creative approaches to promote reading. Winners are selected from all new books published in Germany within the last twelve months.

My new book and the creative process

They say in Japan that art is the illusion of spontaneity. When I read to children, this question is recurrent: “How long did it take you to make that book?” Sometimes I reply “all my life.” This is a book about the process of creating a picture book and also about the process of creating a drawing for the emperor. A book that was long in its conception finally lands on paper to be digested by readers now and in the future.

Hungry Bunny is a 2019 Bank Street College Best Book

From their website: In choosing books for the annual list, reviewers consider literary quality and excellence of presentation as well as the potential emotional impact of the books on young readers. Other criteria include credibility of characterization and plot, authenticity of time and place, age suitability, positive treatment of ethnic and religious differences, and the absence of stereotypes. Each book accepted for the list is read and reviewed by at least two committee members and then discussed by the committee as a whole.
